With co-located IPUC 2011 - 'Adapting Pumping Systems for an Era of Limited and Expansive Power'
13-15 September 2011, 09h00-17h00 daily
Expo Centre, Nasrec, JHB, South Africa
Water quality in South Africa is under threat from a number of contributing factors - acid mine drainage, inefficient waste water treatment, wetland destruction, infrastructure overload due to ineffective town planning, unregulated industrial pollution etc.
The Afriwater exhibition, together with co-locating conferences, play an important role in the water services delivery and water services management arenas. The event provides the ideal platform for local and international companies involved in these industry sectors to showcase latest technology developments, products and services to those endeavouring to preserve this precious resource, with a view to offering solutions.
The Water Institute of Southern Africa (WISA) will host the WISA 2011 Conference alongside Afriwater on 15 September. The conference will focus on ‘Mining, Industrial and Municipal Water Reclamation and Re-use’ bringing real solutions to the current challenges of treating municipal wastewater, preventing further pollution of water sources by industry and dealing with untreated acidic mine water, making it an important event for the South African water industry. During the half-day conference, government speakers will discuss the latest government strategies for water re-use and desalination. Private sector perspectives on water reclamation from the mining and industrial sectors will also be given. Delegates will hear how waste water streams can be turned into a resource, as well as a local water reuse case study and news on the latest international trends and technology in water reclamation and re-use. For further information and bookings for the WISA conference, contact Lucinda Scholttz at Golder Associates on +27 (0) 11 313 1151 or email: lscholtz@golder.co.za
In addition, the International Pump User Conference, IPUC 2011, will also be held alongside Afriwater from 13-14 September, with the theme: "Adapting Pumping Systems for an Era of Limited and Expensive Power." In the past pumping systems were designed taking into account the old realities of abundant and relatively cheap electricity, now, power supply is limited, unreliable and increasingly expensive. IPUC 2011 will focus on the latest developments around the world designed to address this new environment and how to modify existing systems without incurring a crippling financial burden. An assessment workshop will follow the two day conference and will concentrate on the assessment process in an interactive forum with a panel of international and local experts. To register for the IPUC conference or the pumping system assessment workshop contact Veriza Smith on +27 (0) 11 325 0686 or veriza@2kg.co.za.
Since its launch in 1994 Afriwater, together with its co-located conferences, has been serving the water services and delivery sectors in an attempt to find holistic solutions to the challenges of preserving and treating our most precious resource.
